Application of Theory Paper

Question description

Application of Theory Paper

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to synthesize one strategy for the application of a specific nursing theory to resolving a problem or issue of nursing practice in nursing leadership, nursing education, nursing informatics, or health policy.

Course Outcomes

Through this assignment, a student will demonstrate the ability to:

(CO#1) Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. (PO1)

(CO#3) Communicate the analysis of and proposed strategies for the use of a theory in nursing practice. (PO3, 7, 10)

(CO#4) Demonstrate logical and creative thinking in the analysis and application of a theory to nursing practice. (PO4, 7)

Requirements:

Description of the Assignment:

Content

  1. Introduction to the paper includes a few general statements on the idea of nursing theory being applied to solve problems/issues in nursing practice, regardless of the specialty area of practice. For example, why would one pick a nursing theory to solve a practice problem? Would a grand, middle-range, or practice theory be best? Does the writer have any experience in using nursing theory this way? In addition, a brief one-paragraph summary of a specific nursing theory and information on the sections of the paper are provided. The selected nursing theory can be a grand theory, a middle-range theory, or a practice theory.
  2. Description of the problem/issue for which strategies will be developed. The problem to be resolved must be in nursing leadership, nursing education, nursing informatics, or health policy. Scholarly evidence (in the form of a literature review) supporting the issue is included. The problem/issue could be local to one’s specific practice setting. For example, the setting might be a nursing unit, a nursing-education program, an informatics department, or a health-policy unit of a consulting firm. The problem/issue needs to be something that a nursing theory can impact, whether it solves the actual problem/issue or enables people affected by the problem/issue to deal with it. It is best if the problem/issue is from real life – something the writer of the paper has dealt with or is currently engaged in.Some examples (these are fictitious examples)
    1. A nursing unit has experienced rapid turnover of professional staff, including several nurse managers. A new nurse manager from outside of the nursing unit is appointed.
    2. Informatics nurse specialists face a lot of resistance from all healthcare professionals to implementation of a computer-based order entry program. The implementation date will not be changed.
    3. A nurse educator is assigned to take over a large class of undergraduate nursing students, with a mix of young adults and adults returning for a second degree. The subject is difficult, students have not been doing well, and frustration and tempers are impeding group work.
    4. A health-policy nurse specialist works for a consulting firm that lobbies on behalf of many healthcare professions. Within the specialist’s work unit, there is much debate over the pros and cons of various policies being proposed for attention in the coming year.
  3. Applying concepts and principles from the selected theory, one strategy for resolving the identified issue is described in depthDetails on how the theory would be applied are included (consider: who, what, when, where, and how). Rationales for the strategy as well as evidence from scholarly literature are included. One ethical and/or legal aspect of the strategy is discussed. Expected outcome(s) from implementing the strategy are proposed.
  4. Concluding statements include new knowledge about applying nursing theory gained by writing the paper

I need to answer to this post. APA format, reference and citation are very important

The landscape of healthcare continues to change as the needs of those who need the services live longer and face multiple illnesses due to genetics, lifestyle, or just by luck. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) aims to provide better care, better health, and be cost-effective (Nash, Fabius, Skoufalos, Clarke, & Horowitz, 2016).  The ACA enables millions to become insured and contained several tools to maintain cost (Emanuwl, Sharfstain, Spiro, & O’Toole, 2016). Even with these goals, the ACA must continue to strive to better serve the changing healthcare arena. Many initiatives have been created, and much more are still in the process.

The CDC website list several initiatives, strategies and action plan aimed to improve health care (CDC, 2017). Listed is a few of them.

  1. Chronic Disease _The National Action Plan for Cancer Survivorship- establishes awareness on issues faced by survivors
  2. Healthy People- Awareness of health topics with resources and data
  3. National Strategy for Suicide Prevention-Resources on mental health issues, substance abuse, and suicide hotline
  4. US National Vaccine Plan- Ensures safe supply and access, prevention strategies for prevention and disease of vaccines

Elevator Pitch

I Should Hire You: Elevator Speech Presentation

An elevator speech is an excellent way to convey your skills while networking and seeking employment. Typically, an elevator speech is a one-minute summary of who you are, why you are qualified, and what you have to offer the organization or industry. Creating this brief sales-pitch will help better prepare you to discuss your career goals whenever the opportunity presents itself. This type of interaction might occur at a networking event, during a job interview, or within a social setting such as a party or a ride in an elevator.

Watch The Elevator Pitch video about creating an elevator speech, and design a one-minute sales pitch tailored toward your chosen career path. It is recommended that you also review the How to Craft an Effective Elevator Speech online resource. Consider the person in your field who you would most like the opportunity to speak with. Keep this person in mind throughout the process. It is important to specifically discuss your areas of expertise in learning and cognition and how they could be applied to benefit the organization or industry and your future success is this field. Briefly explain any theoretical perspectives that apply to these areas. Once you have determined what should be included in your pitch, you will record your 30-second to one-minute audio or video presentation using any recording software of your choice. (Quick-start guides for Screencast-O-Matic and YouTube are provided for your convenience should you decide to use these.) It is recommended that you create a script or, at minimum, a list of talking points prior to creating your recording. For an explanation of steps to follow when creating an elevator speech, read the PSY620: Preparing Your Elevator Speech document.

Once you have completed your recording, share your pitch with the class by copying and pasting the link for your recording into your discussion post. Include the name of the person you chose to give your speech to as well as a 50- to 150-word description of the individual’s background, industry, area of expertise, and your rationale for choosing this person.

Guided Response: Review and listen to several of your colleague’s posts/elevator speeches and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion. Provide a critique of your colleague’s presentation of the following information:

  • Who he or she is
  • Why he or she is qualified
  • What he or she has to offer the organization/industry

Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

Must post first.

Reread the book review of Peter Berger’s The Sacred Canopy. He calls religion a “social construct.” [Note – Some use the phrase “social construction.”]  What is a social construct?  Is it something true, or merely something useful? If religion really is a social construction, what implications might this have for how people practice religion?  Would it make any difference at all?

Discussion #3: M2 Was Buber Correct?

Available before Friday, September 1, 2017 11:30 PM EDT.

Must post first.

The Jewish theologian Martin Buber built a philosophy of encounter.  The goal of human beings is to have a full encounter with one another, and eventually with God. Buber differentiated between such moments of encounter with God and the ritual practices of religion. He felt that religion actually distracted from being in God’s presence.  Many people today believe that Buber was right – that religion detracts from God.  They say that religious people are more interested in keeping the rules than in encountering God.

Briefly explain what view of religion Buber is responding to. Do you think Buber’s criticism is valid? Why or why not?

Discussion #4: M3 Are Rituals Important?

Available before Friday, September 8, 2017 11:30 PM EDT.

Must post first.

Many religions are very ritual oriented.  Such faiths as Orthodox Judaism, Roman Catholicism, Episcopalianism, and Islam are built around a life of ritual or sacraments.  Other religions such as the Quakers and many Protestant denominations minimize ritual.  What reasons do some religious traditions give for thinking ritual is important?  Do you agree with these reasons?  Why or why not?

Discussion #5: M4 What is the purpose of prayer?

Available before Friday, September 15, 2017 11:30 PM EDT.

Must post first.

Almost all religions have some kind of prayer or worship experience. What do you believe is the purpose of prayer? Is it to try to change God’s mind?  Or is it to try to change us? Is it to build community? Or is there no purpose at all? While the answer is not obvious, do not be afraid to consider the pros and cons of a particular answer.

Discussion #6: M4 Afflict the Comfortable

Available before Friday, September 15, 2017 11:30 PM EDT.

Must post first.

There is a saying that “the purpose of religion is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.” What do you believe this means? Do you think contemporary religions succeed at this task? Give an example.

Discussion #7: M5 Government and Religion

Available before Friday, September 22, 2017 11:30 PM EDT.

Must post first.

In some countries, like the United Arab Emirates, religion plays a strong role in laws governing how people live their daily lives. For example, during the celebration of Ramadan, it is illegal to eat, drink or smoke in public during daylight hours (even in your car!). In the United States, the Establishment Clause of the Constitution is supposed to prevent religion from playing this sort of political role (although it doesn’t always). What reasons might there be for favoring the Establishment Clause? What reasons might there be for opposing it?

Discussion #8: M6 Atheist or Humanist Chaplains

Veteran Military Flag

More and more Americans, when asked to state their religious affiliation, answer “no religion.” Many of these Americans serve in the military. Chaplains are recruited in the military of various faiths to serve the spiritual needs of military personnel. Today there is a call for Atheist or Humanist chaplains to serve the needs of people who do not believe in God and who are unaffiliated with any religion. What sort of obligations do the Armed Forces have to provide religious services for military personnel? Should this include atheists and humanists? Given that the military is a federal organization, what reasons might they have for addressing the spiritual and emotional needs of some soldiers but not others?

Repsond to 4 classmates posts for CAPSTONE COURSE

Question description

AT LEAST 150 WORDS EACH…WRITE AS IF YOU ARE TALKING TO THE STUDENT

POST 1:

In consideration of diversification planning, i would reccomend option i) Lease three cargo jets which you would operate exclusively for a large air-package service firm. The firm is willing to give a four-year contract with a clause that automatically adjusts the fees to reflect the current cost of fuel. The cost to establish the business (crew training, additional maintenance facilities and equipment) is $300,000. The ROI is 20% and the risk factor is 3 to 4. There is a large return on investment with a relatively low risk factor. For my company, and where they are currently at, this is a reasonable way to turn profit with minimal risk. I dont see much ethical concern, if any, with this decision either.

POST 2:

In an effort to diversify the operation I would I would recommend option a) Acquire a food service company that serves several airlines. It is located in the airline’s largest hub. The cost is $500,000 and the Return on Investment (ROI) is estimated to be in the 12-20% range with a risk factor of 5. Considering the fact that the food industry venture is located at the base. This venture would be convenient due to its location. Also, this would be a potential to opening this business to other vendors such as other airlines, providing them a wider variety of meals. A prime example is LSG Lufthansa Service Holding AG, LSG Sky Chefs. LSG (n.d.) showed where this company was originally a subsidiary of American Airlines, but now they are a subsidiary of Lufthansa. LSG is the world’s largest provider of airline catering. However, ethical implications could include areas of social responsibility, sustainability and integrity. Hui (2013) showed where companies can also have ethical implications in marketing. Regardless of the industry, a socially-responsible company should care about their customers, employees, suppliers, the local community, society, and the environment. In this case, the activities of this company has a wide impact on the society and development. POST 3:

In the start of this course, my knowledge and skills abilities were somewhat vague regarding this course and the Capstone requirements. This course demonstrated that upon completion we should have the capacity to apply whatever we learned from day one with the intent of delivering the required results. Preparation for the Capstone has been the most significant and relevant insight. This course has better prepared me to understand what to expect around the bend. My academic goal has experienced a total transformation from initially taking this course. My goals have changed from a more analytical stance to one more of leadership. This course was also beneficial in understanding the importance of team dynamics. I must attest that taking this course has also questioned the value of online higher educational institutions. The course has tested my patience on several occasions, and for that I am grateful. The course was an actual simulation of the real world and has prepared me for my new role at my organization. As for my professional goals, I am pleased with the current return on my investment. I have since received a promotion in November of 2017, and am on track for future growth.

POST 4:

How has your ability to perform these skills and apply this knowledge evolved for each competency?

The main takeaway from this course has been “pulling it all together”. We have all gone through a lot of study and research with different aspects of analyzing and strategy options. This course, and the included simulation, really pulled some of those disparate concepts and ideas and pulled them together in a scenario based simulation that required implementation of those skills and abilities, beyond simple paper writing.

What concepts, skills, or insights were most relevant to you?

Seeing the results of choices over the course of the simulation, and understanding how the choices made created those results was the key for me in this class. Getting feedback of my analysis and expectations after each decision really gave me a greater understanding of how I can use different strategies and research directions to properly assess a situation.

How have you grown in your academic and professional goals? Have you made progress on any items in the action plan you developed during the first course?

The thing I gained most from this course was an improved confidence in myself, and my abilities. While you all understand how much work we have done over the previous classes to get to this point, it still just felt like classwork. I have used some of the new techniques and processes in my routine, but it didn’t really feel like I was becoming a “Master”. The simulation created a great example of finding the scope of a project, analyzing the situation, forming a strategy, and interpreting the results. By tying it all together, it solidified fro me how far I have come, and that I am quite capable of carrying this knowledge into real world situations. In short, it has made me confident in my skills that I hadn’t felt yet.

Discussion: Does Psychotherapy Have A Biological Basis?

TO DO A REPLY COMMENT TO EACH POST. TWO REFERENCE PER COMMENT.
Post 1

Mental health processes and disorders originate from mechanisms within the brain. There has been the question within the psychiatric field as to whether plastic changes in the brain that can occur with the use of  pharmacological interventions for mental health disorders could also occur with the use of psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is extremely beneficial in treating several mental health issues (Laureate Education, 2016).There is compounding evidence that psychotherapy does have a biological basis and can have a positive impact in brain recovery from the stress response. According to Wheeler (2014), psychotherapy mediates the reintegration and connection of neural networks that have become maladaptively linked due to adverse life events facilitating healing of the brain. Psychotherapy has been found to be an effective treatment method for a variety of mental health disorders such as anxiety, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. According to Fournier (2014), activity in regions associated with negative emotion, emotion regulation, fear, and reward are associated with respones to psychotherapy, and psychotherapy appears to alter the functioning of these regions.

While proven to be an effective treatment modality for mental health disorders, there are factors such as culture, religion, and socioeconomic background that can affect the client and their perspective on the use of psychotherapy. Psychotherapy within itself can bring conflicting emotions for the client and the clinician must be aware of how religion, culture, and socioeconomics can alter how the client perceives psychotherapy and its efficacy in their treatment. According to Wheeler (2014), the powerful influence of culture permeates all dimensions of out life in a way that is often unconscious. For example, if a client comes from a culture where emotions are not to be discusssed or if one discusses there past traumas or fears then the client could be resistant to the role of psychotherapy in their treatment plan. The clinician must be aware of the importance of culture in medical or psychological treatments. Religion also plays an instrumental role in how psychotherapy will be perceived by a client. Many clients may come from a religious background where one only speaks of negative emotions with someone from their clergy or a religious figure. According to Kim, Chen & Brachfeld (2018), religion and spirituality are important issues to consider and address in psychotherapy. Communication could become stagnant if the clinician is not aware of the role religion plays in the psychotherapy framework. Socioeconomic background can also be a variable in one‘s perspective of the value of psychotherapy. Certain traumatic events that a person can suffer throughout their lifetime can be directly correlated to socioeconomic standing. For example, poverty can be associated with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and mood disorders. Patients from this type of background can experience barriers in both seeking and receiving mental health services. According to Bernal et al. (2017), vulnerable populations such as those low in social status face additional barriers to mental health treatment and experience unique barriers to receiving optimal care.

POST 2

Psychotherapy is just as controversial as mental health as a whole is. Some believe it is helpful, others believe it is a waste of time. One question still remains unanswered for many, can talking about feelings help change behavior and therefore sure whatever condition a person is suffering from? I believe psychotherapy has a biological basis. Lyrakos, Spinaris, and Spyropoulos (2017) clearly stated as results of a research that “the use of psychotherapy plays a significant role in achieving optimal health outcomes of psychiatric patients” (p. s753). Pairing psychopharmacology with psychotherapy can make a positive impact towards recovery compared to treatment with just psychopharmacology.

Many different reasons can influence the belief that psychotherapy might or might not work. For example, Adams et al. (2017) concluded in an article that “findings suggest that patients’ attachment characteristics play a role in their views and choices regarding treatments” (p. 194). Other factors that can impact the belief that therapy is a waste of time are culture, religion, and socioeconomic status. A person’s upbringing can be one to avoid talking about feelings with a stranger, or even with a loved one. Religion can also play a role in not receiving this type of treatment as faith in a spiritual belief might be the perceived as the cure to an ailment. Economical status and education level can also negatively impact the decision to avoid this type of treatment as the importance of it might not be completely comprehended or there are no means to afford the treatment. In another study that correlates the importance of psychotherapy, data showed “that children/adolescents with not only behavioral and emotional disorders, but also affective (mood) disorders had a higher chance for nondrug psychiatric/psychotherapeutic treatment compared to children with other psychiatric disorders” (Abbas et al., 2017, p. 442).
